Honeywell Lands DoD Contracts to Advance Quantum Navigation Sensors

Honeywell Aerospace HON 0.12%↑ has secured two U.S. Department of Defense contracts under the Defense Innovation Unit’s Transition of Quantum Sensing program to develop next-generation quantum-based navigation and timing sensors. The CRUISE contract focuses on compact rubidium-based inertial measurement units (IMUs) that deliver standalone navigation without GPS reliance, while QUEST aims to advance magnetic anomaly navigation using quantum magnetometers resilient to GNSS denial.

Honeywell Aerospace is working with the U.S. DoD on quantum navigation (Honeywell).

Matt Picchetti, Honeywell’s vice president of navigation and sensors, said the technology will help military aircraft and naval vessels to “operate with greater confidence” amid growing threats like jamming and spoofing. Honeywell’s quantum sensors are expected to offer reduced size, weight and power profiles, promising enhanced positioning and timing solutions for high-stakes defense missions.
