In a potentially huge deal, Samsara IOT 0.31%↑, through an integration with Stellantis’Data as a Service company Mobilisights, will provide businesses across Europe with access to vehicle telematics data. Samsara’s Connected Operations platform will integrate with Stellantis’ built-in telematics hardware, the company said.
The integration will cover Stellantis’ brands including Alfa Romeo, Citroën, DS Automobiles, FIAT, Jeep, Opel, Peugeot and Vauxhall. While the integration applies to most vehicles manufactured after 2024, plus select models from 2018–2024, it will also cover both electric vehicles and commercial fleets.
The partnership is big because not only is Stellantis is the second largest automaker in Europe—accounting for 17 percent of vehicle sales across Europe—but it opens up new markets for Samsara including rental companies, ride-share, and other distributed fleets. This means the fleet vehicles will be able to plug any new Stellantis vehicle into Samsara’s platform without installing any hardware, the company said.
This connection will allow fleet operators, with Stellantis vehicles, to have access to GPS location, mileage, and fuel levels, the company said. “By eliminating the need for aftermarket hardware, this integration simplifies vehicle onboarding and ensures tamper-proof telematics access,” said Paul George, Samsara, director of OEM.
In Europe, Samsara has made inroads with integrations with Ford Pro F 0.90%↑, Volvo Construction Equipment, Caterpillar CAT 2.42%↑, John Deere DE 3.31%↑ and Thermo King.
