5GAA Demonstrates Satellite-Enabled Vehicle Connectivity in Paris

The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) demonstrated vehicles equipped with satellite-based connectivity and 5G Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology. This event marked the first live, on-road integration non-terrestrial networks (NTN) with terrestrial 4G and 5G systems, which was conducted last week in Paris at the association’s conference.

The demonstrations highlighted the potential for continuous vehicle communication even in areas lacking traditional network coverage. The demonstration emphasized the seamless transition between satellite and terrestrial networks, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for drivers, the association said.

Several 5GAA members took part in a V2X demo in Paris last week (5GAA).

The collaboration focused on real-time applications like hazard warnings and emergency messaging, illustrating how NTN can complement existing networks to enhance vehicle communication capabilities.

The demonstrations also included Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) services to showcase how vehicles can interact with network infrastructure and receive real-time information about road conditions and traffic.

According to the 5GAA Visionary 2030 Roadmap, the integration of satellite connectivity in vehicles is expected to commence by 2027, with widespread adoption of 5G-V2X technologies anticipated between 2026 and 2029.
