HERE Technologies Named Top Location Platform Provider for Ninth Straight Year in Analyst Report

HERE Technologies has been ranked the overall leader in Counterpoint Research’s 2026 Location Platform Effectiveness Index for the ninth consecutive year, solidifying its position as a pacesetter in the mapping and location intelligence industry.

The report evaluated 25 companies, including Google GOOG 0.00%↑, TomTom and Mapbox, and recognized HERE for its comprehensive capabilities, broad geographic reach, strong partnerships, software-defined vehicle vision and AI innovation. Counterpoint highlighted HERE’s leadership in map data freshness and accuracy, platform strength, and its ability to deliver cutting-edge, location-aware services.

HERE grabs top location company in Counterpoint’s annual index (Counterpoint Research).

HERE’s Key Strengths

HERE excels with its unified, cloud-native platform that supports automakers, fleets and enterprises across more than 200 countries. The company stands out for large-scale AI/ML deployment in mapmaking, innovative products such as HERE AI Assistant and SceneXtract, and major collaborations like its 10-year, $1 billion agreement with AWS for the SDV Accelerator. These strengths position HERE as a frontrunner in the transition to AI-powered, real-time “live maps” essential for software-defined vehicles and agentic AI applications.

Competitive Landscape

While HERE leads the index, its competitors bring distinct strengths. Google Maps dominates consumer navigation with massive scale, rich user-generated data and seamless integration across devices. Mapbox offers flexible, developer-friendly mapping tools and strong customization for businesses. TomTom maintains deep expertise in automotive-grade mapping and high-precision speed data for advanced driver assistance systems. Each competitor challenges HERE in specific segments, but the Counterpoint report noted HERE’s balanced excellence across nearly all evaluation categories.

Mike Nefkens, CEO of HERE Technologies, said the recognition reflects the company’s long-term commitment to innovation. “As mapmaking has evolved from the download era to streaming and now into the AI live map era, HERE has been at the forefront, setting the pace for the industry,” he said.
