FocalPoint, STMicroelectronics Partner on Enhanced GNSS Technology for Vehicles

British GNSS software specialist FocalPoint has entered a commercial agreement with chipmaker STMicroelectronics to deliver more reliable positioning for automotive applications, the companies announced last week.

The partnership integrates FocalPoint’s S-GNSS Auto software with STMicroelectronics’ Teseo GNSS receivers. The combined solution is designed to significantly improve accuracy and reliability in challenging environments such as urban canyons and tree-lined roads, where traditional GNSS signals often suffer from multipath interference or blockage. The technology is delivered as a firmware upgrade, allowing automakers and Tier 1 suppliers to enhance performance without major hardware changes, the companies said.

FocalPoint and STMicroelectronics sign auto deal (FocalPoint).

FocalPoint’s patented Supercorrelation technology underpins the software, which has shown strong results in global trials. The companies said the joint solution is advancing toward commercial deployment in current and next-generation vehicle platforms, supporting advanced driver assistance systems and future autonomous features.

The agreement builds on a collaboration first announced in May 2025 and positions the partners against competitors including u-bloxQualcomm QCOM -0.55%↓ and Broadcom AVGO -0.38%↓ all of which are developing advanced GNSS solutions for the automotive market.

“This commercial agreement takes our work with ST to the next level,” Scott Pomerantz, CEO of FocalPoint, said in a statement. STMicroelectronics’ Luca Celant added that the partnership expands Teseo’s capabilities and helps customers achieve better performance in tough conditions. Evaluation kits are now available for automakers and suppliers.
