Rogers Communications RCI 0.00%↑ launched satellite-powered asset tracking technology Monday in partnership with Geotab, becoming the first Canadian wireless carrier to offer satellite-to-mobile service for IoT devices. The initiative, powered by Rogers Satellite and Geotab’s GO Anywhere Plus, allows businesses to monitor trailers, containers and equipment in real time, seamlessly switching between 5G+ networks and satellite coverage in remote areas where traditional cell service falls short.

With only 18 percent of Canada covered by conventional wireless networks, the low-earth orbit satellite system enables existing IoT hardware to maintain connectivity across vast geographies, boosting uptime, logistics and sensor automation in sectors like forestry, mining and transportation. Tom Turner, president of Rogers Business, said the service empowers organizations to track critical assets nationwide, while Geotab CEO Neil Cawse highlighted its reliability in harsh, remote job sites. Rogers plans to roll out satellite-enabled GO Anywhere hardware this spring.
