Mapping pioneer and other industry veterans to leave as company faces rocky financials…

Following an announced succession process, TomTom [TOM2] has announced that co-founder and CEO Harold Goddijn will step down. The company’s board has nominated CTO Mike Schoofs, who has been with TomTom since 2005, as his successor.

Mapping vetran Alain De Taeye’s term as a management board member will also conclude—as well as the tenure of co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer Corinne Vigreux, Goddijn’s spouse, after 35 years.

The baton is being passed—CEO Harold Goddijn will step down and CTO Mike Schoofs has been nominated to replace him (TomTom via LinkedIn).

Goddijn, who co-founded the company in 1991 and has led it as CEO since 2001, has been nominated to join the company’s board. Godijn called leading TomTom “the privilege of my professional life” and expressed confidence in Schoofs’ ability to drive the company forward.

The transition comes as TomTom navigates severe financial challenges, including declining share value, and a strategic pivot from consumer navigation devices. Such competitors as HERE Technologies have made significant headway into the Chinese mapping markets, particularly in automotive.

In full-year 2025 results reported Feb. 4, 2026, TomTom posted group revenue of 555 million euros, down 3 percent from 574 million euros in 2024. Location Technology revenue was down 2 percent to 482 million euros.

However, the company achieved positive operating results of 2 million euros compared to a 20 million euro loss in the previous reporting period. Net cash stands at 263 million euros—with a strong 2.4-billion-euro automotive order backlog that signals a strong market ahead.

In other TomTom news:

  • TomTom has integrated its automotive navigation application with Visteon’s cognitoAI platform, aiming to bring conversational, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven navigation directly into vehicle cockpits.
  • TomTom has announced that Kapsch TrafficCom [KTCG] selected TomTom Traffic to power the next generation of its intelligent mobility offerings. By integrating TomTom’s advanced traffic data and services, Kapsch TrafficCom will enable public authorities and road operators worldwide to make more accurate, data-driven decisions, the company said.
